Waiting for the dust to settle

It’s not often you get to call work and say, ‘I’m not coming in because a volcano erupted.’ But that’s exactly what happened to Pauline Ahola.

Pauline’s taken over production duties while our production manager David Findlay terrorises the Maldives and Bali in his Speedos.

Or she was supposed to anyway but Eyjafjallajokull had other ideas.

Although she did make it to work eventually, she was forced to spend four extra days shopping and sightseeing in Paris, instead of here at THE DM GROUP.

But who could blame her?

Sometimes the client is right

Having worked in account service and on the client side, our new Account Manager, Meredith Bradly, has something most suits don’t – perspective.

Meredith joins THE DM GROUP after a two-year stint at RSPCA where she spearheaded a fundraising appeal that earned 30% more than targeted and saved the lives of countless kittens by fostering them when they had ‘kitten flu’.

She was also a finalist for ADMA’s Young Direct Marketer of the Year 2009. And she comes highly recommended by our very own Craig Hockley.

While we’re all excited to have Meredith on the team, none of us are as excited as Craig, who’s really looking forward to finally getting his Ricky Gervais DVD back.

Fire up!

When was the last time you felt so strongly about one of your ideas you threatened to jump out of an office window if people in your meeting didn’t listen to it?

‘We should be in charge!’

On Monday night we saw people like George Lois, Mary Wells, Hal Riney and Lee Clow in Art & Copy.

‘That’s advertising, baby!’

They didn’t worry about awards, or being the coolest kids at ad school. They just came up with some of the most disruptive and successful ad ideas ever.

‘Creativity can sell anything!’

Like Apple’s ‘1984’, firing the first shot in the PC vs Mac wars. Or Nike’s ‘Just do it’ attitude. Or the ‘Morning in America’ TV ads that helped Ronald Reagan win a second term in 1984. Uhh, thanks for that one.

But proper thanks to Junior for organising the Melbourne screening.

Now, in the words of George Lois, ‘Let’s sell that mutha—!’

Boxers or (project) briefs?

Imposing order on THE DM GROUP office is no task for the fainthearted.

But our new Office Manager, Georgia Rudin, reckons she’s rarely lost an argument, so we think she may well be up to the challenge.

Georgia comes to us with extensive experience in advertising and PR agencies, including some time in account service. She’s worked with brands like Lee Jeans, Nike and Mercedes Australia Fashion Week. A highlight of all this fashion work, she says, was being at a shoot in LA for Davenport Boxers with Herb Ritts.

If only we’d known about that, perhaps Georgia could have provided some expert assistance with Dave Findlay’s Speedo moment the other day? Maybe there are some jobs you just don’t ask a person to do in their first week.
